A green energy facility, capable of powering 20,000 homes, is proposed for construction near a quaint Lincolnshire village. This anaerobic digestion plant, designed by VIDA Bioenergy Ltd., aims to recycle crops and cattle waste into renewable energy, offering a sustainable solution for both farmers and the environment. The facility, situated approximately 1km from Glentham and 10km from Market Rasen, would process 150,000 tonnes of feedstock annually, including crops, agricultural by-products, and waste. This ambitious project promises to boost local farms, enabling them to cultivate a diverse range of crops and fostering economic stability during challenging times. The anaerobic digestion process not only produces biomethane for the National Grid but also generates carbon dioxide for industrial applications and natural organic fertilizer. Planning documents suggest that the carbon-reduction benefits could be equivalent to planting 2.7 million trees annually, making it a significant contribution to environmental sustainability. Lincolnshire councils have historically supported such initiatives, with a recent major project in Spalding receiving permission. This proposed facility, if approved, would be a testament to the region's commitment to renewable energy and environmental stewardship.
